The Liverpool map pack, measured — not guessed

Most "local SEO in Liverpool" pages tell you the city is competitive and stop there. We measured it: 300 live Google Maps listings across 15 real searches — plumber to conveyancing solicitor — captured from central Liverpool twice, 24 hours apart, as part of our UK map-pack study.

Liverpool's pack profiles were the most complete we measured: 91.1% of the top-3 listings linked a website, the highest attach rate of any city in the study. When the baseline hygiene is already this high, "just finish your profile" is not the advice that will move you — the winners have all done that.

In short

Liverpool has the most wired-up pack we measured — 91.1% of top-3 profiles link a website, ahead of every other city. Basic profile hygiene is already table stakes here, so completeness alone will not separate you. The review bar swings hard by search: restaurant packs at 2,691 median reviews, dental-implant packs at 462, but accountant packs at 4 and electrician packs at 6. One in three packs changed members within a day, so this is a fairly lively map on top of a well-kept one.

Three honest observations from the Liverpool capture

The most wired-up pack we measured

91.1% of Liverpool's top-3 profiles linked a website — the highest attach rate of any city in our study, and notably higher than the 82.7% among ranks 4–20 here. The baseline hygiene is already strong, so "add a website, finish your profile" is not the differentiator it might be elsewhere. The winners have done the basics; separation comes from reviews, categories and relevance.

Reviews track the pack — and the range is huge

The top-3 carried a median 52 reviews against 35 for ranks 4–20, so review depth does move with rank here. But the spread is enormous: restaurant packs at 2,691 and dental implants at 462, against accountant at 4 and electrician at 6. The citywide medians tell you almost nothing about your own fight — the table does.

A lively map on top of a tidy one

5 of the 15 Liverpool packs we tracked changed membership within 24 hours. Well-kept profiles do not make the map static — a third of the packs reshuffled inside a day. That is why we record a day-0 baseline for every keyword and track movement monthly, rather than judging by a single screenshot.

What this means if you trade in Liverpool

  • Basic profile hygiene is already table stakes — 91% of winners link a website, so completeness alone will not separate you.
  • Check your search family in the table first — a restaurant's fight (2,691 reviews) and an accountant's (4) are different sports here.
  • Because review depth tracks rank, a steady review programme is worth investing in for most Liverpool searches.
  • In thin packs (accountants, electricians, locksmiths at 4–8), the right categories and relevance can be most of the battle.
  • A third of packs churn within a day — judge progress against a recorded baseline, not a one-off screenshot.

Your trade, in depth

The city sets the arena; your trade sets the rules. Each guide below covers the categories, review strategy and trust signals for that trade across the UK — pair it with the Liverpool numbers above.

Liverpool questions, straight answers

Is local SEO harder in Liverpool than elsewhere in the UK? +

It depends on your search family, but Liverpool's pack profiles were the most complete we measured — 91.1% linked a website. That raises the baseline: the basics are already done by the winners, so you compete on reviews, categories and relevance. Difficulty by search ranged from a 2,691-review restaurant pack to a 4-review accountant pack.

How many reviews do I need to reach the top 3 in Liverpool? +

Check the table for your search family — it ranged from 4 (accountant) to 2,691 (restaurant). Liverpool's top 3 carried more median reviews (52) than ranks 4–20 (35), so review depth does track rank here and a steady review programme is worth the effort for most categories.

My Google profile is complete — why am I not in the Liverpool pack? +

Because completeness is table stakes here, not an edge. 91% of Liverpool's top-3 profiles already link a website, so finishing your profile only matches the field. The separation comes from genuine review depth, the right primary and secondary categories, and relevance to the exact search — the things most competitors have not fully done.

Does the Liverpool map pack change often? +

5 of the 15 Liverpool packs we tracked changed membership within a single 24-hour window — a lively map despite the tidy, well-kept profiles. That is why we record a day-0 baseline for every keyword and measure monthly against it, instead of trusting one screenshot.
